An Even More Awkward Party
"Sorry for arriving late, mom," Samantha immediately excused herself upon entering her own place and seeing her mother by the kitchen speaking with another guest. "Had to deal with some last minute things at work and then had to deal with traffic as usual."
From her place's entrance, she could only see her mother and the guest she was speaking with, but from the lively chatter she heard in the background, it was clear that there were already quite a few guests here.
"Oh, don't worry, darling," her mother smiled as she then picked a plate and started to serve herself. "Allowing us to have this nice get-together with my friends at your place is already more than enough."
"Your place is very nice," the other woman standing right next to her mother added, albeit in a rather awkward way which Samantha didn't think too much of. "Thank you very much for letting us enjoy this here."
"Of course, it's my pleasure," Samantha answered, only to then take off her coat and put it on the coat hanger right next to her. "If you'll excuse me, I'll head to my room for a moment to make myself at home, but I should be back in a minute or two."
Samantha then quickly walked down the long corridor which led away from the kitchen and soon enough, reached her own room where she could make herself more presentable to all of the guests.
Usually, her mother would just host these get-togethers at her own place, but for some reason, just a few days ago she had gone to her place to ask her if she could host it at her apartment this time instead. In any other situation, she would have thought it over, but given how her boyfriend Kyle was conveniently going to be rather busy these next few days, she ended up agreeing to her mother's request.
Not that her boyfriend would have been a dealbreaker.
It just that ever since her boyfriend had used the Medallion of Zulo to become an exact copy of her own mother just a few weeks ago, she simply wanted to avoid seeing the two of them at the same place.
But he wasn't here, so she was not going to let herself be bothered by that.
Besides, she was quite hungry after a long day of work, and just seeing all of the hams, cheeses, chips and dips placed neatly on the table was already too much for her to resist-
And then she felt her cellphone on her pocket vibrate, most certainly because of a text message.
Not thinking too much about it, she quickly picked her phone, expecting the text message to be either from one of her friends or from a coworker.
But when she saw who it was, she was left completely paralyzed.
The person who had sent her the text message was none other than her own mother.
In it, her mother was telling her about how much she had enjoyed going tonight to a new restaurant that had just opened less than a month ago and that the two of them should go there some time later. And attached to that message was a picture of a succulent piece of salmon accompanied with some beautifully garnished mashed potatoes.
This didn't make any sense at all.
She had seen her mother in the kitchen just a minute ago, but this was clearly her phone number, so it wasn't like anyone was impersonating her.
So how could her mother be at two places in the same time?
Unless-
In an instant, Samantha threw her handbag on the floor and stormed her way out of her room, headed straight toward her mother.
"Oh, you're finally back-" Her mother began, but before she could finish, Samantha grabbed her by the arm, quickly dragged her to her own room again, and screamed at her.
"Kyle. For the love of God. Why the hell are you in my mother's body again?!"
For a moment, her mother was utterly speechless upon hearing the accusation, but after a few seconds, she simply shook her head and smiled.
This couldn't be happening.
"For a moment, I really thought I was going to get away with it, specially since you didn't even notice it was me when I asked you if I could host this party at your place," her mother - or more accurately, her boyfriend Kyle - confessed. "How did you find out?"
"Find out?! That's what you care about?!" Samantha said as she couldn't even begin to understand why the hell was this happening again. "What I want to know is why are you impersonating once again my mother?!"
"Because it's fun," He responded in return. "I still don't understand why you are so against this. If you at least tried to use the Medallion of Zulo once, you would find out that it's actually very entertaining-"
"Yeah, maybe, but at least don't do it with my own MOTHER!"
"Well, I can't use the Medallion of Zulo until tomorrow to change back, so unless you want to create a mess, I would suggest for you to just play along."
"Do they even know that you are not actually my mother?!" Samantha said instead, referring to all of the guests her boyfriend had decided to invite to this get-together. "Do they?!"
Kyle remained silent for a few seconds until out of nowhere, he started to chuckle with glee.
"What the hell is so funny about this?" Samantha questioned her boyfriend, not understanding at all why he was laughing at this.
"It's funny because they do know I'm not actually your mother..."
And just like when she saw her real mother's text message, she was left completely paralyzed again.
If they knew that he was not actually her, then why the hell was there still a party?!
"Let me guess: you have no idea why we're still having a party as if nothing important had happened," her boyfriend suddenly spoke up as he then crossed his arms right underneath his large, motherly chest. "Simply put, unlike you, when someone is given the chance to impersonate their girlfriend's mothers, they take it..."
"Wait, wait, wait," Samantha shook her head as she was in the middle of realizing the implications of what her boyfriend had just said. "Are you telling me that-"
"Yep. Every single guest here is actually a friend of mine who has used the Medallion of Zulo to impersonate the mother of their own girlfriend."
She had thought that having her boyfriend impersonating her own mother was by far the most awkward thing that could happen to her.
But it was now that she realized that she was so, so wrong about that.
"So now what?" Samantha finally relented.
"Again, you can just storm your way out of your own place until the party ends, or you can stay and try to enjoy it. The offer to use the Medallion of Zulo is still open, so if you really want to enjoy this party how it's meant to be, then you're more than free to use it."
Samantha then let out a deep breath of frustration.
"I still won't use that thing, but at least I'll try to enjoy the party."
"Great then. In that case, I'll tell the guests that they don't have to pretend anymore. You already know many of them already, so it won't be hard to strike a conversation."
When she arrived from work just a few minutes ago, Samantha had just wanted to relax and enjoy some good food at her mother's party.
But now, for reasons outside of her own control, she was going to be at definitely the most awkward party she had ever been.
This caption is for Badger. I decided to focus more on Samantha finding out about the party's actual circumstances rather than her being at the party, but hopefully you'll like what I wrote up. I hope you like it!
